Ideally situated in `Downalong’, the famous old fishing quarter of St Ives, Idlehour is nestled amongst all the other ancient fishermans cottages, many of which date back 300 years and more. Together these curious granite cottages offer you a unique insight into a Cornish past long since gone, but thanks to sympathetic renovation, you can enjoy a comfortable stay whilst still experiencing a little of the feel of what once was a very close knit and hard working community here in St Ives.  Accessed by a quaint cobbled alley, Idlehour is just 20 yards from the picturesque harbour front with its sheltered sandy beaches, you will find no need of a car. The three other local beaches : Porthgwidden, Porthminster and the famous surfing beach of Porthmeor are all within a short walking distance of this pretty cottage Location. Secure and sheltered parking being included at no extra charge means that you can truly relax and unwind.

Idlehour has been tastefully modernised, retaining original features wherever possible. The front entrance sits slightly down from Back Road East where a small slated ‘Al Fresco` area offers you somewhere to sit and share a glass of wine in the cool of a summers’ evening when the children have gone to bed. From here a `stable door’ entrance takes you into an open plan living and kitchen area. Here, two comfy sofas seat you around the original granite fireplace which, for your convenience, now has a coal effect gas fired stove installed. This, combined with double glazing keeps the cottage beautifully cosy even in mid winter when the sea can be wild and the wind blows in angrily from the Atlantic Ocean. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave oven and cooker. Upstairs sleeps four. A comfortable twin bedroom overlooks Back Road East , whilst the double room adjoining looks out across the harbour and bay towards Godrevy Lighthouse and then and on up the coast for as far as the eye can see. Both rooms are comfortably furnished and come with quality linen and duvets and slim line electric radiators for cooler winter nights. A travel cot is available/provided for the younger visitor! There is a seperate Shower Room with WC, Hand Basin, Electric Shaver Point and Heated Towel Rail. You will need to bring your own towels.  Idlehour is owner managed, so you can be assured of that personal touch and the very best attention at all times. Complimentary wine and flowers welcome you on your arrival and we offer you a selection of reading material and DVD’s. We offer you free Wi Fi and family membership to St Ives Leisure Centre for the duration of your stay. Your membership includes unlimited use of both pools (according to timetable) Gym use and all available classes such as Aqua Fit, Hydro Running, Tai Chi, Yoga, Body Pump, Aerobics and new this year, “Spinning Classes” The Centre is situated at the top of town and looks out across the bay and down over the harbour and town of St Ives offering probably one of the best views in the Country. After all that excitement then there is nothing better than to sit down on the golden soft sands of the Harbour Beach. Enclosed by two ancient quays, it provides a safe and enjoyable refuge, especially suited to families with small children who can explore the little sandy pools amongst the boats at low tide or paddle where the sand slopes gently into the warm shallow water.  So how better can you imagine spending your Cornish holiday and passing away many an ‘IDLEHOUR` !!!
